On Friday, July 12, the City of Garner, and Garner Parks and Recreation proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new Stellar Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art baseball and softball facility. The project, which broke ground with DSC and ATURA in July 2023, includes three playing fields, a batting cage, upgraded amenities, restrooms, and a concessions space.
The complex was made possible in part by Stellar’s generous contribution of $100,000 to the Xtra Innings Initiative. With over 300 children enrolled in youth T-ball, baseball, and softball programs in Garner, the Stellar Sports Complex will provide them with top-quality fields to develop essential skills and techniques.
The ceremony featured a special first pitch thrown by Mayor Tim Schmidt, symbolizing the official opening of the complex. In addition to the complex itself, the fields were named in honor of local figures. One of the diamonds is now known as “Dodd Field,” in recognition of Ivan Dodd, a long-time Garner mayor and Stellar employee. The other two fields have been named Larkin and Davison.
