Project Description
The Clear Lake community is now home to a “inclusive” playground with equipment meant to engage children of all abilities to develop physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally. Included in the project was a dual-zone splashpad, a secure fenced-in perimeter, and shelter house with accessible restrooms and mechanics rooms for the splash pad.
Careful planning went into the design of the playground area to include features for those who bring kids and adults to the playground with a drive-up semi-circular drive where those in wheelchairs or special needs can get out and dropped off right in front. “Everyone” means not only children with a physical disability requiring an accessible playground, but it also includes developmental disabilities like autism; children with sight or hearing impairment and children with intellectual disabilities such as down syndrome.
