Francis Lauer, a Youth & Shelter Services (YSS) organization, is under construction with a remodel and addition in Mason City. DSC crews started last fall on a multi-phase project to help the facility feel more residential and less institutional.
Phases 1 & 2 include remodeling 16 existing 1-bedrooms into 4 single rooms and 6 double rooms. Included in Phase 1 is a new 5,000 SF stand-alone activity center that includes a gym, exercise space, bathrooms, and space for a future kitchen. Phase 1 remodel will be completed in March and Phase 2 will be completed in July 2020. Construction on the Phase 1 new building will start in spring for completion towards end of 2020.
A possible Phase 3 is still under design and pricing will include renovation of existing gym space into a much nicer entry and waiting area to facilitate all the services provided by YSS.
